An African Christian Theology of the Blood of Jesus Christ
Details
A popular African Christian theology of the blood of Jesus Christ has been developed in the course of the spread of the Christian faith in Africa. The development of the popular theology has been influenced by the traditional African religious worldview on animal sacrifices. This discourse aims to critically review and evaluate the popular African Christian theology of the blood of Jesus Christ. It is a critical evaluation that seeks to make a clear distinction between the biblical discourse on the blood of Jesus Christ and the uncritical accommodation or assimilation of the phenomenon of shedding animal blood in traditional African religions in the popular African Christian theology of the blood of Jesus Christ. The evaluation seeks to eliminate syncretistic elements in the popular African Christian theology of the blood of Jesus Christ and to propose a biblical, culturally meaningful, and contextually relevant theology for application in Christian praxis in different historical contexts in Africa.
