Bio-targeted study on plant extracts with periodontal application
Details
Periodontal disease is an infectious, painless and slowly progressive oral disease with a high incidence worldwide. Among the associated pathogenic flora is the anaerobic bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis, which has also been associated as an inducer of coronary lesions, pneumonia and pre-eclampsia. In this study, four plant species from northern Mexico were analysed: Krameria ramosissima, Larrea tridentata, Jatropha dioica and Leucophyllum frutescens, from which their extracts were obtained by the continuous extraction technique using methanol as solvent; their yields were obtained and chemical tests were performed for preliminary identification of compounds. Cytotoxicity and mutagenicity tests were carried out on the most active compounds.
