Chemical Modification of ZA8 alloy

Die casting is the preferred type of casting process in industries for a large scale production. ZA8 alloy is one amongst most widely used die casting alloy. Applications of ZA8 alloy include automobile, aerospace and aviation domains. In nature, there is an endless scope for improving the properties of materials. In past few years, materials R&D has been bringing out significant changes in the behavior of materials through various methods. This book covers the concepts of improving mechanical properties and theory behind such improvement. Various metallurgical aspects like addition of Manganese as modifier, thermal analysis, wettability, heat transfer characteristics, grain refinement and microstructure evolution in relation to the improved properties has been discussed.

Vishwanatha Hiremath is currently pursuing his PhD studies at Dept. of Metallurgical and Materials Engg., IIT-Kharagpur. After his M tech studies from NITK-Surathkal, he was working as Asst. Prof in the Dept. of Mechanical Engg., MIT-Manipal. His research areas include Casting and Solidification, Heat Treatment, Heat Transfer and Nanocomposites.
