Dairy Farming as a Source of Income for Rural Farm Households

Dairy has been holding a key position in Indian economy and has become a major source of livelihood for millions of rural families which has helped in providing continuous and regular flow of income. Since more than last two decades, Indian dairy sector has shown the tremendous growth which made India world's largest milk producing country. Continuously increasing demand for milk and milk products provides immense scope in this book for analyzing the marketing and utilization pattern which is central to make developmental interventions for improvement of the existing production systems. A highlight of this book is its extensive coverage of production and utilization pattern of milk and its product, net income from milk production, disposal pattern of surplus milk and final consumption expenditure on milk and milk products. This book also examines the policy changes instituted to provide support the aid flow to the dairy sector and discuss the lessons learned and benefits realized through improved dairy farming.
