Deforestation in the Tropics (An Overview)

Deforestation is the removal of a forest or a stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to a non forest use. The removal of trees without sufficient reforestation has resulted in damage to habitat, loss of biodiversity and aridity; extinction, changes in climatic conditions, desertification and displacement of populations as observed by current conditions and in the past through the fossil record. This book is therefore a handy handbook for students of Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Forest managers, Life sciences and those in government agencies and policy makers to acquaint themselves with knowledge required to checkmate rapid rate of deforestation in the tropics.

L'auteur est titulaire d'une licence en zoologie et d'une maîtrise en conservation et gestion biologiques de l'université Nnamdi Azikiwe d'Awka, dans l'État d'Anambra, au Nigeria ; il prépare actuellement un doctorat dans l'unité de bioconservation de la même université et enseigne à l'université fédérale de Kashere, à Gombe. Il est bioconservateur.
