Diversity of Zooplankton in coastal waters of Mumbai

Plankton play an vital role in marine food chain. Herbivore zooplankton are responsible for energy transformation from phytoplankton producers to first rank carnivore zooplankton on which marine fauna depends directly & indirectly for survival. The book deals with Zooplankton diversity in coastal waters of Mumbai. Mumbai located on west coast is one of the metropolitan cities in India. Mumbai coastal water receives enormous quantities of treated & untreated waste water resulting to coastal pollution. Due to such coastal water pollution, biodiversity of it is in danger. Many reports published indicates diminishing biodiversity of Mumbai coast. The book present the data on Zooplankton diversity assessed for two years at various coastal sites in Mumbai. The data presented in the book will be useful for coastal water management in Mumbai.

Pof. Balasaheb G. Kulkarni has 33 years of teaching biological oceanography to post graduate students at the Institute of Science, Mumbai. He published many research papers on various aspects of coastal ecology in International & national journals. His research interest includes coastal biodiversity, ecology, pollution, aquaculture & marine drugs.
