Details

Yield losses caused by weeds as a result of improper time of weeding by farmers have been tremendous, the wrong spacing used by traditional farmers which lead to overcrowding or under-crowding of the farmland has also reduce crop yields as a result of competition for nutrient and other factors. Treatments consisted of three spacing and four weeding regimes was used for this work. The result of this work showed that there were significant differences among the weeding regime on the growth parameters measured. The phenological trait showed no significant difference. No weeding plot had high percentage yield reduction of 64.46 % while weed free plot had 0 % yield reduction. Based on the result obtained, weed free and 60x20 cm spacing gave the optimum yield of okra. Farmers and research institute stand to benefit from this work.
