One of the greatest challenges facing humankind is to minimize the impact of human activities on the environment. Increasing population and the need for production to keep pace has resulted in a large increase in the land area used for agriculture. Agriculture in Liberia is highly dependent on the vagaries of weather. Any abnormalities in the weather during the season, would very seriously affect the growth and final yield of the crops, such as: delay in the outbreak of rains, untimely or excessive rains, droughts, or spells of too-high or too-low temperatures. Analysis of the existing data indicates that at least 50% of the variability of crop yields is related to weather. The crop losses can be reduced substantially by affecting adjustments through timely and accurate weather forecasts. Such weather forecast also provides guidelines for long range or seasonal planning and selection of crops best suited to the anticipated climatic conditions. Weather forecasting also is useful for various purposes - aviation, shipping, fisheries, flood forecasting, cyclone warning and many other special users besides forecasts for the general public. The first and foremost aim of weather forecast
