Multicarrier Spread Spectrum Communications with Phase Noise
Details
A major development in wireless communication is the emergence of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) or Multicarrier Modulation. The benefits of multicarrier communication include high spectral efficiency, lower susceptibility to multi-path distortion and simple implementation. However, it is well known that multicarrier systems are very sensitive to frequency synchronization error. Meanwhile, Spread Spectrum has been becoming popular over the last two decades in the commercial marketplace due to its advantages, namely multiple access capability, robustness against fading, and anti-interference characteristics. Combining multicarrier and spread spectrum, this book considers a technique called Multitone Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (MT-DS-SS). It provides complete analytical and computer simulation results for the performance of MT-DS-SS signaling in the presence of imperfect carrier synchronization, modeled as frequency offset and phase noise.
