The Greece national rugby league team is now an affiliate member of the Rugby League International Federation. Rugby league was first played in Greece in 2006, with international match played in Athens. Greece played Serbia which Greece won 44-32. The founder of the Greek rugby league is Colin Mylonas, which he formed in 2003. The popularity of rugby league in Greece will be known once a domestic competition gets under way in 2006, with an International to be held in Athens in the latter stages of the year. Greece will be staging their inaugural domestic competition in 2006. There are 4 teams to kick the season off with players coming from England, Australia and New Zealand to help out. The primary aim will be to get the Athens populate playing rugby league. The Competition will run for 4-6 weeks with 2 games per week. The length of the competition will increase over time. It will be fully sponsored by a major company based in Greece.
