As of September 2009, the cost per square foot of land is Rs.11,269 for Apartments & Rs. 16,738 for individual properties. In 1960s and early 1970s, the gardens of the Bangalore Palace (a summer home of the Wodeyar dynasty of Mysore, their main home being the palace in Mysore) were being converted into a residential neighborhood, and this was when the first lots in Sadhashivnagar were purchased. Until 1990s, Sadhashivnagar was known as "Palace Orchards," as it was built in the former royal grounds. Even today, certain homes in the Raj Mahal Vilas Extension (built on the expensive 8th Main Road, 9th Main Road and 10th Main Road in the wing formerly known as Upper Palace Orchards) are situated right opposite what is left of the official palace grounds.
