Sadong-guy k, or Sadong District, is one of the 19 guy k, and one of the six, that constitute East Pyongyang, North Korea. It is on the eastern bank of the Taedong River, and the mouth of the Nam River. It is north of Ry kp''o-guy k (Ryokpho District), east of Taedonggang-guy k (Taedonggang District) and north east of Tongdaewon-guy k. It was established in September 1959. Pyongyang (Korean pronunciation, literally: "Flat Land") is the capital of North Korea, located on the Taedong River. According to preliminary results from the 2008 population census, it has a population of 3,255,388. The city was split from the South P''y ngan province in 1946. It is administered as a directly-governed city (chikhalsi), on the same level as provincial governments, not a special city (teukbyeolsi) as Seoul is in South Korea.
