Shujaa Me Katilili wa Menza

The study conducted by Tsawe-Munga Chidongo on Me Katilili wa Menza is a refreshing look again at this Kenyan woman leader through modern lenses. Me Katilili is described as one of the great African women legends who spearheaded a liberation movement at the Coast of Kenya. She alone saw the need to defend the Midzi-Chenda community and its traditional culture, that of the Agiriama in particular, against colonial British aggression and dominance. The struggle and leadership skills Me Katilili displayed in the community commanded respect from the elders, the youth and fellow women. This had never happened before; subsequently, in what was a patrilineal community, it was the woman and mother Me Katilili who became the most serious threat to the world power.
