Skills Requirements for Information Workers in Research Institutions:

The last two decades or so have witnessed tremendous technological advancements that have had a significant effect on the management of information. While prior training is essential for information workers, it is important to note that information worker roles have changed from mere custodians of information to creators, processors and disseminators with clientele spread up to remote locations. To these end however, challenges among them Information noise, Information overload, scattering of information and ever emerging messaging and communication technologies continue to be of great concern. Owing to these and the dynamic nature of the information management field, the author proposes long-life-training that may be accomplished via use of available technologies among them e-learning and conferencing applications, Computer Aided Instructions and the Internet. This publication will be useful to professionals in the field of information sciences, information technology and anyone else involved in the acquisition, processing, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information.
