Stahlstadtschule

Since 1990, the department known as da (die architektur = the architecture) at the University of Arts Linz has been Austria's newest and smallest architecture school. Located in this city on the Danube, it addresses topics related to both urban and rural space, with a critical emphasis on social and ecological aspects. Stahlstadtschule assembles a selection of texts, interviews, projects, and artifacts that situate the Linz school of architecture within the larger Austrian architectural and cultural landscape, and in relation to the city of Linz and its urban development policies and processes. The publication traces the architectural history of the city of Linz in recent decades, at the same time opening up critical perspectives on these developments that have been offered by the local architectural school. c/o now is a collective, practice-oriented architectural office based in Berlin. Currently, c/o now is also active in the fields of teaching and research, for example at the Neue Architekturschule (N AS = New Architecture School) of the University of Siegen, with a professorship in building theory and design. Since 2021, c/o now has operated studios in urbanism and typologies (2023-24) at the University of Arts Linz.

Sigi Atteneder is a professor of sustainable architecture and spatial development at the University of Arts Linz, where he heads the studio BASEhabitat and the department of architecture.

Die Abteilung da (die architektur) an der Kunstuniversität Linz ist seit 1990 Österreichs jüngste und kleinste Architekturschule. In der Stadt an der Donau beschäftigt sie sich gleichermaßen mit Themen des urbanen wie des ruralen Raums und betont dabei kritisch soziale und ökologische Aspekte.
