Study of root rot diseases of chickpea and its management

Chickpea (Cicer arietium L.) locally known as gram or chana in an important pulse crop widely grown in the world and as well as in India. India is the largest producer of chickpea sharing 75 percent of the world production. Chickpea is known to have originated in Western Asia and belong to the family leguminaceae and is an ancient crop cultivated in about 40 countries of the world. Chickpea is affected by number of diseases viz, Fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum, Fusarium cicer); Dry rot and Wet root rot (Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid); Collar rot (Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc) and Foot rot (Sclerotinia sclerotium . In the present work attempts are made to dicover potential fungitoxic plant against resistant isolates of Macrophomina phaseolina, Fusarium oxysporum and Sclerotium rolfsii.
