Viktor Suvorov (Russian: ) is the pen name for Vladimir Bogdanovich Rezun (Russian: , Ukrainian: Volodymyr Bohdanovych Rizun, ) (born April 20, 1947 in Primorsky Krai), a former Soviet and now British writer of Russian and Ukrainian descent who writes primarily in Russian, as well as a former Soviet spy who defected to the UK. Suvorov made his name writing books about Soviet history, the Soviet Army, GRU, and Spetsnaz. His testimony about the capabilities of the Soviet Special Forces created concern in the West. It contributed to the formation of the Norwegian HV-016, an elite unit equipped to neutralize such a threat if ever deployed on Norwegian soil.
