Vytautas Ma ernis (June 5, 1921 October 7, 1944) was a Lithuanian poet existentialist.He was born in village arnel (now in Plung district municipality), where he created most of his poems. His grandmother, who died in 1934, appears in most of his poems as a warm and pleasant memory. In his childhood he was very withdrawn and thoughtful.Ma ernis studied English language and literature in Kaunas and philosophy at the University of Vilnius. The poet had died on October 7, 1944 in emai i Kalvarija hit by a stray bullet.
