Warsaw 1989 or Tehran 1979?
Details
The revolutions and upheavals in the Middle East and North Africa since 2011 fundamentally challenged and transformed the regional system. "Warsaw 1989 or Tehran 1979?" is concerned with the consequences of the Arab Spring on the security of Israel. While European analysts greeted the revolutions as being similar to the democratic revolutions in Eastern Europe at the end of the 1990's, Israel saw rather a repetition of the Islamic Revolution in Iran 1979. The regional system ante Arab Spring was characterized by autocracies and a power constellation that meant stability for Israel. Nowadays, all the old autocrats have fallen and Israel's old partners in the region are gone. The Arab Spring had implications for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well, although Palestine was not directly affected by the upheavals. This book tries to give an insight into the huge changes Israel had to witness in terms of its own security. Not only in Syria, where civil war and barbarism remain unchallenged, but also on the border to Egypt and Lebanon.
