Magesa Japhari est diplômé d'une licence en économie domestique et nutrition humaine (2009) de l'Université d'agriculture de Sokoine (SUA) et d'un master en santé publique (2015) de l'Université catholique de la santé et des sciences connexes de Mwanza. Il a travaillé dans le domaine de la nutrition et de la santé pendant environ 8 ans, à la tête de différents postes, du district au niveau national en Tanzanie.
