Ghost Cells: Origin and Staining features of Head & Neck lesions
Details
Cells are structural and functional units of all living organisms. The term "Ghost" means a mere shadow or semblance or a spiritual being. The term ghost implies that some element of the human being survives death and at least under certain circumstances, can make itself perceptible to living human beings. Ghost cells are characterized by loss of nuclei, clear preservation of basic cellular outlines. Since the body experiences considerable environment diversity both in normal and pathological conditions, the same cell type can be found exhibiting different characteristics and behaviors in different regions and circumstances.Studies related to Ghost cell mainly on their origin, nature may led to a rapid understanding of the pathogenesis of various odontogenic and non odontogenic lesions. Hence such lesion needs to be studied to understand the true nature.
