Perinatal mortality at the University Clinics of Kinshasa
Details
The rate of PND at the University Clinics of Kinshasa is high and amounts to 87% during the period of the study (1991 - 2010). Maternal age before 20 years and after 35 years and more, primiparity, high multiparity, modest socio-economic level of the pregnant woman, and non-attendance at ANC are undeniably involved in the occurrence of PND. Preterm delivery as well as overdue delivery is also a serious risk factor for perinatal death. The reduction of LBP can only be achieved through: The improvement of the socio-economic level of the population and the health education of pregnant women; the development of prenatal consultation centers that can determine the gestational age; the renewal and equipping of delivery rooms with sufficient and modern equipment allowing, among other things, the appropriate monitoring of the fetus before, during and after birth; the fight against this scourge must take into account, on the one hand, the main causes identified in this study, i.e. prematurity and infections, and on the other hand, identify unknown causes (37.8%).
