The aim of this book is an attempt to discuss the motif of silence and paralysis in two novels by D.H. Lawrence: The White Peacock and The Lady Chatterley's Lover. These two motifs are linked with the themes of a marriage, a motherhood and an unfulfilled spouse, lover or a parent. The introduction reveals the information about the works of Lawrence. The first chapter is devoted to The White Peacock, where the main characters deal with miscommunication. The second chapter is devoted to The Lady Chatterley's Lover and its themes of silence, and paralysis. The conclusion compares these two novels together, overviews the similarity of characters, motifs and themes.

Alicja Günther was born on the 27th of July, 1989 in Wuppertal. She is currently a PhD student at University of Gdansk. Mrs. Günther is fond of the 19th and 20th century English literature.
