International Communications at the United Nations

Globalization defined as increasing interconnectedness of the world, has undoubtedly brought significant changes in its shape and made it smaller'. The processes of shrinking world are reflected in virtually every area of human activity, from economics and politics, to culture and communications. These changes have significantly influenced the situation and position of the United Nations as the only truly global organization able to deal with the challenges and problems humanity is faced by. The Organization was designed to be effective in the conditions of the bi-polar shape of world. However, this order, valid during the cold war era, depleted its possibilities, the world has changed and the need for reform of the United Nations has become an urgent issue. Additionally to reshaping the Organization in the political sense, it became urgent to change the way United Nations communicates with the public. The essential tool utilized by the United Nations, the art of diplomacy has substantially decreased its significance as it could not bear with the speediness of the world and became somewhat obsolete. How does the UN cope with communnications nowadays?

Dominika Grzywinska (1984) is an Alumni of the Poznan University of Economics, graduated in the Department of Economic Policy and Corporate Strategy in 2008. She gained broad, international and cross-industry experience working at the United Nations, IBM and Frost&Sullivan.
