A Study on Training Needs of Seed Dealers of Coimbatore District in TN

The good seed in a good field produces abundantly. Therefore it is very much required that the farmers must use pure, healthy seeds as per the minimum certification standards which have standard germination percentage. The production of quality seed is thus very important. Marketing of seed is the most important as well as a challenging task because of the nature of the product, a living organism. Thus its shelf-life is limited and it must be marketed within the season before its vigour and germination is lost. Many agro-dealers are failing in business because of random lending to friends and family members, with debt management being poor. Hence those dealers must be trained to market their produce effectively. In planning an effective training programme, the first and foremost essential step is to identify the specific training needs of the farmers. The success or failure of training depends upon whether the training was need based and appropriate methodology applied or not. This book provides a detailed outlook of training needs of seed dealers, training dimensions preferred by them and their expectations.
