Details
This work on waqf identify the way in which Islamic Endowments help in providing socio-economic welfare to the society during the early days of Islam, which continues among generations up to the contemporary period. The establishment of Waqf department in Zamfara state Zakat and Endowment board in the year 2000 brought the need to investigate the role of waqf in transforming the society in all ramifications of human endeavors. The research points out that even before re-implementation of shari'ah in the state in 1999, Muslims have been establishing waqf in form of building of Mosques, Wells, islamiyyah schools and planting trees for the benefit of the Ummah. The work records how Muslims used to endowed properties to the board for good and proper maintenance under waqf department. The board successfully accomplished many projects from the waqf Funds which includes; building of seventeen 17 hospitals, building and renovating houses for the orphans and less privileged people in state. In the year 2006, the board embarked on quarterly capital grant distribution from the waqf funds to the poor and less privileged so that they could be economically self reliant.
