Becoming a Teacher in Finland

In recent years Finland has been very successful in the PISA studies. As a result of this people around the world have showed a particular interest in the Finnish educational system. This book shows a Finnish teacher, Pirjo Pyykkö's journey to professionalism by means of reflection. She had fantastic inspiring teachers through her school years so her dream was to become such a good teacher, too. This book is autobiographical. Pyykkö describes her growth to professionalism through her teaching practises. She emphasizes the meaning of emotional education and the power of creativity which are keys towards the pedagogy of joy. In addition Pyykkö introduces meaningful experiences that have helped her to increase her understanding and to become a better person and a teacher. This book is very useful and inspiring for all professionals, educators, teachers, pre-school teachers, student teachers and all who are interested in education and growth as a human being.

Pirjo H. Pyykkö, MEd: Studied Education at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. She has worked as a teacher in Laune elementary school, Lahti since 2001. She has specialized in initial education, physical education and visual arts. In addition to her work she is a doctoral student at the University of Jyväskylä.
