Bioecology of Hualo Leptodactylus pentadactylus in Peruvian Amazonia
Details
In this context, the study of the bioecology of the "Hualo" Leptodactylus pentadactylus was carried out in order to determine the most important aspects of life of this frog, which will allow the establishment of management plans and sustainable use and at the same time to value an Amazonian resource that is being used as a source of food by forest populations. The "Hualo" Leptodactylus pentadactylus after a process of breeding in controlled environments, can be used not only in the production of frog legs for human consumption, as it has been shown that the meat has a high content of protein and calories, as well as an adequate percentage of fats and carbohydrates, making it suitable for the preparation of sausages and smoked products; Frog meal can be obtained from the bones and viscera; the skin can be tanned and is useful in the preparation of different manufactured products (Sicchar et al, 1990); all these derivatives can be marketed on the foreign market.
