CdS Nanoparticles and Thinfilms for Solar Cell Application
Details
CdS being a wide band gap semiconducting material and with better lattice matching properties made it suitable option for solar cell applications. Solar energy has the potential of becoming a renewable energy alternative to fossil fuels. Present work deals with a Chemical Precipitation synthesis used for the preparation of CdS nano particles. In this method Cadmium Sulphate [3CdSO4.8H2O] and Thiourea [(NH2)2CS] are used as a source material for Cd and S respectively in the presence of N, N- Dimethylformamide (DMF) as a solvent and NaOH for decreasing the pH value. The CdS nano particles have been characterized by X-Ray Diffraction(XRD), Particle Size Analyzer (PSA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometry (EDX), UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy (UV - Vis), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis & Differential Thermal Analysis (TGA-DTA). CdS thin films have been prepared by spray pyrolysis technique. The spraying solution consists of an aqueous solution of cadmium chloride CdCl2.2H2O, Thioacitamide (TAA), ammonia as complexing agent and N, N-DMF as a solvent.
