Chromitite of Mawat Ophiolite Complex Kurdistan Region, Ne Iraq

The book is representing a pioneer work in the field of Economic Geology/Ore Geology of Kurdistan, Northeast Iraq. The studied area was politically unstable until 1991, hence the geological work was limited and not in detail. As Mawat Ophiolite Complex is a part of this area, therefore studies related to this important complex was very limited. This study focused on petrology and mineralogy of rock types especially the ultramafic rocks namely chromitite rocks. The chromitite rocks is podiform in shape envelops by dunite and harzburgite rocks. Geochemical and mineralogical studies revealed economical interest for these rocks which the Cr2O3 wt % up to 45 %. Due to its high grade the geophysical study should be carried out for determining the reserve of the ore type.
