DDR, Gender and Post-Conflict Environment
Details
Whatever the role played by the International community in conflict resolution, the importance given to gender issues, the participation of women in the processes of consolidation and return to peace, it has been proven that the contribution of women is strategic in order to maintain, build and promote world peace. The inequality and gender imbalance that persists in crisis recovery processes and post- and pre-conflict situations is intolerable. Sexual and gender-based violence is particularly prevalent in situations where there is widespread lack of respect for human rights. Non-discrimination and fair and equitable treatment are basic principles in the design and implementation phases of integrated DDR. The design and implementation of DDR programs should promote gender equality based on gender-sensitive assessments.
