Details

The aim of the study was to develop an observation profile for health education CtC classrooms in the UK. In order to develop a comprehensive observational profile the author drew from a number of resources: own professional experience, review of the relevant literature, some existing standardised observational scales, and a small scale investigation in a CtC classroom in South London. The study was planned in two phases. The first phase was to investigate the characteristics of the CtC classroom pedagogy in a primary school in the UK as the basis for devising a classroom profile. In the second phase the profile was sent to two groups of experts for content and methodological review, respectively. The general consensus was that the profile provided thorough coverage of various dimension of CtC classroom pedagogy. The methodological review established that the profile reflected an optimum level of clarity and exhibited a gradual incline in quality. The tool was revised in light of the experts' comments. It is hoped that the classroom observation tool will be a useful addition to the health education literature.
