Disability and Disadvantage

Numerous constraints impact on the educational access and participation for students with disabilities on a day to day basis. Students with disabilities are denied opportunities to participate from the level of their families, into the school, in the wider society, not ecluding any opportunities to plan for the education that can benefit them, thereby diminishing their chances to practice and perfect their skills. The able bodied create situations and environments that disadvantage people with disabilities instead of improving them.There is need to improve on the ways that can enhance the inclusion of people with disabilities for example to involve people with disabilities in planning,to create opportunities for them to participate, to help them to perfect their skills. There is need for support, morally and economically,a reduction of abuse of any form, acceptance of the child as he/she is. The responsible authority would also need to show higher levels of commitment, to strengthen its mandate in order to improve the education of people with disabilities.

Ethilda Chidindi,nee Biza was born in Zimbabwe.She grew up and studied in Zimbabwe.She moved to Norway to pursue her furtherstudies at the University of Oslo.
