E-banking and Its Difficulties in Hungary
Details
In the beginning of the 1990s, there was a belief
that Internet would spread tremendously; and as a
result the banking sector would also change. Experts
predicted a prosperous future for it, and declared
that electronic channels would replace bank offices.
In this work I am revealing both the inducements and
the disincentives of e-banking to find out why it did
not spread as it was expected. I analyze the factors
that influence this process: the economical
environment (EU, The Government and banks), the
social environment (people s attitude towards the new
technology, security concerns) and other factors as
well (education).
Did the banks act correctly? Will time alone change
people s attitude towards the new technology and
would they use e-banking services more than today?
What should banks do to accelerate the accustoming
process? - These are the questions I try to answer.
