Early Iron Age in South Asia
Details
Initiation of metal technology was a major breakthrough in the history of mankind. Because the barbaric mode of living of the Stone Age had a turn towards successive stages of modification with the mastery over the utility of metals like copper/bronze and iron for different purposes. Being technological attainment, the use of these metals improved general living patterns and also governed economic processes during the Early Metal Age. Among all, iron is the most available deposit in many geographical zones, especially in the Asian region. Asia is one of the richest sources of iron ore deposits. Moreover, the iron ore reserves are easily accessible and also in high grade. Further, they are good for smelting because of having very less for impurities like phosphorus and sulphur. Good quality of steel production (Corrosion-Resistant Iron) centres which were made by the technique of melting in the crucible, are reported from different pockets in Asia. EAI 2018 has invited scholars of different fields to discussed various issues related to the Early Iron Age. The present volume is based on the contributions of academic scholars.
