Employment Generation by Fish Hatchery in Bangladesh

Over the last two decades, the substantial development has been occurred in aquaculture sector of Bangladesh. This sector plays an important role in terms of protein rich food supply, foreign currency earning and socio-economic development through employment generation. This study concerned with the impacts of large fish hatchery on employment generation and livelihoods improvement of the employees working in hatchery in Mymensingh area with respect to the type of employees, salary structure, socio-economic characteristics of employees and the livelihood impacts of hatchery based employment. Overall, this study reveals that a large number of permanent employees were found working in fish seed production hatchery. Almost all of them improved their livelihood conditions considerably compared to their previous conditions.
