Gesture in the Compositional Process

This book discusses physical gestures and movements of performers as the main tool for instrumental musical composition. It also highlights the main relationships between this phenomenon and musical imagery and its role in communication between musicians and listeners. Excerpts from scores by Iancu Dumitrescu and Janis Christou were used as theoretical support, highlighting similarities between these compositional processes and relating them to my own creative processes.

Elder Oliveira is a saxophonist and composer, born in Rio Grande, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He holds a bachelor's degree from the Federal University of Pelotas (Brazil), a master's degree in music from the University of Aveiro (Portugal), and is currently pursuing a doctorate in music at the University of Aveiro. His work continues to focus on musical composition.
