Details

Government intervention in higher education in South
Africa aims, among others, at reforming the slanted
system of higher education to reflect the post-
Apartheid democratic order, and to set it on a
developmental path. The complete overhaul of the
higher education sector in South Africa has not been
implemented to that extent in any other country.

The book attempts to establish the extent to which
the South African Government's objectives for
intervening in higher education are achieved. It
further identifies the best policy options to
rectify outstanding problems, to ensure a higher
education system that meets the developmental needs
of the country and protects institutional autonomy
and academic freedom.

This book is a must read for higher education
officials, academics and students. It is also useful
for historians, higher education consultants, to
understand the political history of South Africa and
its impact on the country's system of education. The
book provides international trends in higher
education and will be useful in developing your
systems of education.
