Waldemar Karwowski

Waldemar Karwowski is Pegasus Professor and Chairman, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems, University of Central Florida, USA. He holds an M.S. in Production Engineering and Management from the University of Technology Wroclaw, Poland, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University, USA. He was awarded D.Sc. in management science by the Institute for Organization and Management in Industry, Warsaw, and received the National Professorship title from the President of Poland (2012). Three Central European universities also awarded him Doctor Honoris Causa degrees. Dr. Karwowski served on the Board on Human Systems Integration, National Research Council, USA (20072011). He currently is Co-Editor-in-Chief of Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science journal, Editor-in-Chief of Human-Intelligent Systems Integration journal, and Field Chief Editor of the Frontiers in Neuroergonomics journal. Dr. Karwowski has over 550 research publications, including over 200 journal papers focused on ergonomics and safety, human performance, neuro-fuzzy systems, nonlinear dynamics, human-centered AI, and neuroergonomics. He is a Fellow of the Ergonomics Society (currently the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (U.K.), Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), and the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), and served as President of both HFES (2007) and IEA (2000-2003). He received the William Floyd Award from the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors, the United Kingdom in 2017, and the David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award. Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, Atlanta, USA, in 2020. He was also inducted into the Academy of Science, Engineering & Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL) at its Inaugural Annual Meeting in November 2020.

Anna Szopa

Anna Szopa got her MS in quality and technology management from the Silesian University of Technology in Poland in 2006. In 2012, she completed her Ph.D. in Management at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, where she later served as an assistant professor and an associate professor. She has a broad range of teaching experience, from extensive tutoring and individual mentoring to designing and teaching business, economics, entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology transfer courses. She served as a visiting scholar at the University of Maryland (USA), University of Central Florida (USA), University of Haifa (Israel), and Technical University of Prague (Czech Republic). Her primary research interests include university-industry relationships and university spin-offs management. Her current research centers on testing and transferring accessible technologies to public organizations in the United States. She has been applying basic principles to the design, development, and management of information to meet diverse users' needs. She can assess the impact of existing or emerging technologies, employ state-of-the-art tools and techniques to create, manage, and analyze information, and demonstrate an understanding of critical issues, including the privacy, authenticity, and integrity of information. Dr. Szopa is a co-editor of books about entrepreneurship, innovations, and technology transfer. She is a member of several international scientific committees. She also regularly conducts peer reviews for journals and conferences, including Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science, Review of Managerial Science, International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics, and Asia-Pacific UIIN Conference on University-Industry Engagement.

Marcelo Soares

Marcelo Soares is currently a Full Professor at the School of Design, Hunan University, China, selected for this post under the 1000 Talents Plan of the Chinese Government. He is also a licensed Full Professor of the Department of Design at the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. He holds an M.S. (1990) in Industrial Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and a Ph.D. from Loughborough University, England. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Industrial Engineering and Management System Department, University of Central Florida. He served as an invited lecturer at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico, University of Central Florida, USA, and the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Soares is Professional Certified Ergonomist from the Brazilian Ergonomics Association, which he was president for seven years. He has provided leadership in ergonomics in Latin American and in the world as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Ergonomics Association (IEA). Dr. Soares served as Chairman of IEA 2012 (the Triennial Congresses of the International Ergonomics Association), held in Brazil. Professor Soares is currently a member of the editorial boards of Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science, Human Factors and Ergonomics in Manufacturing, and several journal publications in Brazil. He has about 50 papers published in journals, over 190 conference proceedings papers, and 110 books and book chapters. He has undertaken research and consultancy work for several companies in Brazil. Prof. Soares is co-editor of the "Handbook of Human Factors and Ergonomics in Consumer Product Design" and the "Handbook of Usability and User-Interfaces (UX)" published by CRC Press. His research, teaching, and consulting activities focus on manufacturing ergonomics, usability engineering, consumer product design, information ergonomics, and applications of virtual reality and neuroscience in products and systems. He also studies user emotions when using products and techniques in real and virtual environments based on biofeedback (electroencephalography and infrared thermography).
