Health Inequalities in the St. Louis Medical Region

In the area of health, the trend has been towards increasing inequality over the last two decades. Health and mortality statistics show consistent disparities between classes, socio-professional groups, genders, and ethnic groups, although trends toward greater equality differ from country to country and from one social division to another. Overall, Senegal has better health indicators than the rest of the region. However, a more detailed analysis shows that progress in the different areas is very uneven. Moreover, significant disparities appear first between regions (Dakar and the rest of the country), then between rural and urban areas, and finally between socio-economic levels.
