IMPACT OF NATURAL RESOURCE EXPLOITATION ON THE ENVIRONMENT

The province of Maniema in general, and the town of Kindu in particular, are under heavy pressure from abusive logging, which is causing many environmental problems throughout the province, and which is being carried out without regard for forestry standards. The man who should protect the environment at all costs in order to achieve a balance, appears to be much more of an economist than an ecologist. We are currently witnessing the destruction of the environment as a result of excessive deforestation, leading to a number of consequences, including the degradation and loss of topsoil, and the loss of certain animal and plant species in deforested areas.
