Introduction to semantics and translation

Translation is an assured product of semantics. This book aims to introduce students to semantics and translation. One of the major roles of translation is to first understand how a word is used in a given text and decide how to translate that word into another text in another language. The semantic aspect of the book takes into account the different definitions of statements or concepts in situation according to experts, and the forms or categories of meaning that a term can take. Different approaches, methods or theories of translation are adopted to explain the fact of translating a text into another language. Some translation difficulties are also considered based on examples of particular texts.

Mr. ATONON Theophile Kwame, a tenured teacher, holds a Master's degree in Translation, and is currently a doctoral student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. He is a lecturer, researcher and translator at the French Education Department, University of Education, Winneba, Ghana.
