Medicinal plants and treatment of peptic ulcer

Gastric ulcer is a cosmopolitan disorder of the gastrointestinal tract resulting from an imbalance between aggressive and protective factors of the gastric mucosa. This condition can be caused by various exogenous toxic agents, including Helicobacter Pylori. The treatment of this condition is a combination of antibiotics and anti-ulcer drugs. Many cases of treatment failure have been reported due to the resistance of Helicobacter pylori to antibiotics. This is a real public health problem. It is therefore urgent to find an effective and sustainable alternative. In this perspective, many research groups have turned to medicinal plants. The results of this research are interesting and promising. This study is a literature review that was conducted with specific keywords in search engines such as Google Scholar, Springer, Pubmed and Research4life. At the end of this work, it appears that Curcuma longa L., Zingiber officinale, Melissa officinalis L., Glycyrrhiza glabra L., and Euphorbia hirta L. are plants that contain bioactive compounds capable of acting effectively.
