Mentoring and the Difference it Makes in Teachers' Work

This book is written in response to the global concern to achieve quality education. it identifies the continuous professional development of teachers (CPD) as the best strategy for education improvement. However, this book draws special attention to teacher mentoring, a type of teacher CPD which is regarded by researchers as the foundation for teaching, because it contributes to teacher's pedagogical understanding and grasp of a repertoire of teaching strategies, which equips less experienced teachers (mentees) with the capability to teach effectively. Mentoring is also known as a strategy which develops competence and confidence in teachers, thereby, reducing the rate of teacher attrition. This book is comparative in nature, because it exposes some of the reasons behind poor quality education in developing countries and the reason why developed countries enjoy quality education. This book is designed for both pre-service and in-service teachers, education leaders and school owners, curriculum developers, government and stakeholders in the field of education.
