Details

Although the concept of mass customization has beenimplemented in the computer, clothing, andautomobile industries, it has not been fullyintegrated in architecture, especially in thehousing industry which is more directly related topersonal life style. One of the arguments in thisbook focuses on the current implementation that isnot fully functional to address the consumer's needsby selecting the product's appearance only. The bookpresents the possibilities of customizing modularhouses by internet and architectural programmingmethods. A prototype advisory system has beendeveloped to facilitate the non-architecturaltrained clients to select the appropriate designschemes and components based on their ownpreference. Besides that, the proposed workflowadopts Building Information Modeling (BIM)applications as the design collaboration platform inthe building delivery process. The findings of thisresearch provide an open-ended framework and usefulreference to professionals in AEC industries andarchitectural research fields, or anyone else whomay be considering utilizing online feedback loopsfor the participatory design approach.
