People with disabilities in the Burundian democratic process
Details
This book entitled "People with disabilities and the Burundian democratic process: advocacy for their inclusion" is the result of a DESS final thesis on Human Rights and Pacific Conflict Resolution carried out in 2007. It is an advocacy for the rights of people with disabilities. The Burundian democratic process, which was meant to be inclusive, has practiced positive discrimination against certain categories of people. Although they represent more than 15% of the population, according to WHO and World Bank estimates, people with disabilities are excluded from this process. While officially this category is not excluded, the reality is quite different. This work has been carried out to fill this gap and its aim is to help this process to be truly inclusive, otherwise society will be depriving itself of the human resources that are essential for integral development. It is divided into three parts dealing respectively with the issue of inclusion, the assets to propel the change in the status and role of the disabled person, and the measures recommended to achieve this change.
