Planning for Optimum Crop Production
Details
Development of farm planning models and its implementation based on scientific principles seems to be the practical approach to address the problem of sustainable production and ever increasing food grain demand in a country. Goal Programming is one among such mathematical models used extensively to develop the normative agricultural plans. The objective of this study is to develop optimum agricultural farm plans and regional plan for the dry land predominant Kottampatti block of Madurai district, Tamilnadu. The results of the study indicated that the optimum plans at farm and block levels are efficient in terms of working capital, profit, resource requirement and production over the existing plans. Besides, there is conservation in all the resources used for production in optimum plans derived when compared to the existing plans. The present study revealed the importance of normative planning at micro and macro levels by offering flexibility in the availability of resources. Such normative agricultural planning through mathematical programming techniques helps to generate adequate information base for the use of all the stack holders- farmers, students and policy makers.
