Psychosocial Determinants of Anxiety, their Relationships and Effects

The main objectives of this study are to identify the major determinants of anxiety in foreign language classes and to see the relationships among the variables (anxiety, teacher-student interaction, self-esteem and values). It is also one of the main objectives of the study to look into the effects of the independent variables (teacher-student interaction, self-esteem and values) on the dependent variable (anxiety). The material heavily relies on psychological sources in its address of foreigm language anxiety. It underscores the intertwinement of both the cognitive and the affective domains in stating the problem and addressing this psychological issue of anxiety. The research report takes up the psychological issue of language anxiety that has to be principally resolved through psychological services, generally indicating that the material is about a psychological issue at its start, ending with implications that call for psychological services in the teaching -learning process. The book is readable and very indispensable in the realm of education.

Dr.Bekalu got two Masters Degrees in Special Needs Education(2004) and TEFL(2006). Later, he secured his PhD(2011) at Addis Ababa Univeristy. Bekalu has produced articles, modular textbooks in Research Methods, Psychology and Language courses. Currently, he is an Academic and Research Dean at the Ethiopian Catering and Tourism Training Institute.
