Race, Gender and Power
Details
C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and J.K. Rowling have contributed great works to British Fantasy Literature. However, many of their critics have claimed that these very works (The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter) are mere escapist books which offer worlds so much better than our own. The aim of this very thesis is to challenge this view and it also points out that social realities such as Race, Gender and Power are as much reflected in these works as in great realist fiction the 20th century has known.
