Details

Rapeseed and mustard belong to the family Cruciferae are important oil crops and currently ranked as the world's third important oil crop in terms of production and area. However, the average seed yield of rapeseed and mustard is 0.71 t ha-1 in this country (BBS, 2004), which is far below the level as compared to that of the advanced countries. The major reasons for such poor yield of rapeseed and mustard in Bangladesh may be attributed to lack of improved varieties and poor management practices in the framers' field. Establishment of optimum plant population by maintaining proper row spacing is one of the important factors to secure a good yield in any crop. In addition, irrigation is a vital factor for proper growth and development of this crop as it is cultivated in dry season. Taking the above mentioned points in view, the present study was undertaken to find out the suitable row spacing for the cultivation of the rapeseed and to find out the proper number of irrigation for getting higher yield of this crop. This work is exclusively based on the experiment conducted at the Agronomic field of Sher- e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, Bangladesh.
